Wonhyo-ro in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, underwent significant morphological changes as it transformed from the Yongsan Riverfront area in the late Joseon period into Old Yongsan, a Japanese settlement during the Japanese colonial period. This study examines the urban morphological changes of Wonhyo-ro from the late Joseon period to the Japanese colonial period, focusing on roads, land parcels, land categories, and land ownership. Based on cadastral maps and land survey registers, the analysis divides the process into three phases: the late Joseon period, the formation of the Japanese settlement, and its consolidation. The findings show that the urban fabric of the late Joseon period was strongly influenced by topographical conditions, while the colonial period saw the development of new urban areas around railways and road networks, parcel subdivision, and the expansion of Japanese land ownership. In particular, Japanese settlements were formed mainly in newly developed areas rather than in the existing urban fabric, while the late Joseon urban fabric and new developments became spatially connected, accompanied by changes in land use.
