Abstract
This study analyzes the formation process of mobility dispositif in Korean society from 1966 to 1975, focusing on the ‘my car’ discourse. During this period, while the absolute level of car ownership remained in the ‘era of class distinction,’ the discourse and institutional dimensions already aimed towards the ‘era of mass production and consumption.’ Using Foucault’s concept of dispositif as an analytical framework, this study examines the uniqueness of this compressed transition period in dynamic-relational, productive-strategic, and material-institutional dimensions. The analysis reveals that the ‘my car’ discourse was not merely an expression of desire for consumer goods, but rather a strategic response of the system which was seeking possibilities for new urban governmentality. Particularly noteworthy is the unique mechanism through which the ‘my car’ discourse preceded material reality and reconstructed urban space. It transformed automobiles, which only a small minority could possess at the time, into objects of desire for all urban citizens, which in turn justified the car-centric reorganization of urban space, and ultimately led to the formation of new urban subjects. This analysis provides important insights into understanding the formation process of the unique mobility dispositif created by Korea’s compressed modernization.

본 연구는 1966년부터 1975년까지 한국 사회에서 ‘마이카’ 담론을 중심으로 전개된 모빌리티 장치의 형성 과정을 분석한다. 이 시기는 자동차의 절대적 보급 수준은 ‘계급 구별의 시대’에 머물러 있었으나 담론과 제도의 차원에서는 이미 ‘대량 생산과 소비의 시대’를 지향하는 이중성을 보인다. 본 연구는 푸코의 장치(dispositif) 개념을 분석 틀로 삼아, 이러한 압축적 전환기의 특수성을 역동적-관계적 차원, 생산적-전략적 차원, 물질적-제도적 차원에서 검토한다. 분석 결과, ‘마이카’ 담론은 단순한 소비재에 대한 욕망의 표현이 아닌, 새로운 도시적 통치성의 가능성을 모색하는 체제의 전략적 대응이었음이 드러났다. 특히 주목할 만한 것은 ‘마이카’ 담론이 물질적 현실에 선행하면서 도시 공간을 재구성해 낸 독특한 메커니즘이다. 이는 당시 극소수만이 소유할 수 있었던 자동차를 모든 도시민의 욕망 대상으로 만들어 냈고, 이는 다시 도시 공간의 자동차 중심적 재편을 정당화했으며, 결과적으로 새로운 도시적 주체의 형성으로 이어졌다. 이러한 분석은 한국의 압축적 근대화가 조형한 독특한 모빌리티 장치의 형성 과정을 이해하는 데 중요한 통찰을 제공한다.
