Abstract
Education plays a pivotal role in addressing the challenges of climate change in China. Given the increasing impacts, integrating climate change education (CCE) into China’s middle school curricula is essential. Our research focused on analyzing CCE content in middle school geography textbooks and conducting surveys with both teachers and students. We found that while textbooks contain some climate-related content, it is not well-integrated or coherent. Additionally, many teachers lack practical experience in teaching CCE. The findings indicate that textbooks should integrate more dynamic visual materials and experiential learning activities, thereby extending beyond the mere transmission of factual knowledge. This study seeks to offer informed perspectives for policymakers and educators to enhance the implementation of CCE within middle school geography curricula.
